Creating a role

  1. 1Go to Settings → Roles & Permissions and stay on the Roles tab.
  2. 2Click Add Role.
  3. 3Give it a role name and a description — the description is what other administrators see in the role list, so say who the role is for.
  4. 4Work down the permission tree and switch on what the role needs. Start from the closest existing role and copy its shape rather than building from nothing.
  5. 5Click Create Role.

To change an existing role, click it in the list and toggle permissions directly — a Saved marker confirms each change. There is no undo, so note what you changed.

Worth deciding early: only Admin holds the two dashboard permissions by default. Every other role signs in and lands on a Dashboard they have no permission to read. If you want your receptionist to see today's schedule on arrival, grant View dashboard overview to that role.

Check the defaults before you deploy. Pharmacist has no patient permissions, so a pharmacist cannot open the record of the patient whose prescription they are dispensing. Doctor cannot cancel appointments. Nurse cannot write prescriptions but can order imaging. These are defensible defaults, but they are choices — review them against how your clinic actually works.
